Revival: Living in Liberty

Peace, love, togetherness, and harmony are the most talked about themes in a world that is so polarized and fractured. The lawlessness and confusion on our streets, the selfishness and discontentment in our institutions and, the bickering and family feud in our homes are the things we experience at every turn, every day. Very few people enjoy conflict. We crave harmony and peace. Upon all the peace conferences and seminars that teach peacemaking and conflict resolution in our institutions and even in our churches, we are yet to know peace.

Could this be the neglect of the Law of Liberty? How can there be peace and tranquility in families and communities where peace has eluded us? It is upon this background that the Elephant and Castle Community Church embarked on a weeklong revival series dumbed: ‘Living in Liberty’ to reflect on the one thing that brings true rest, peace and liberty.

The Revival series began from the 17th to 24th July 2021, and it was led by Pr. Lewis Quaye, the Host and District Pastor, Pastor Ebenezer Sackey, Associate Pastor, Pr. Emmanuel Opoku Acheampong, Associate Pastor, and Pr. Fergus Boateng, the Guest Speaker and the Director of Personal Ministries, Sabbath School and Muslim Relations at the South England Conference of SDA, UK. For the seven days church members and guests were taken through the Law of Liberty, the 10 Commandments of God as found in – Exodus 20:1-17, by the Speakers. The Psalmist says: “The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The statues of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes…I will walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts.” – KJV Psalm 19:7-8; 119:45 Also, the Apostle James in his admonishment to the church had this to say: “For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law. So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty." – KJV James 2:10-12.

Throughout the Revival series – ‘Living in Liberty’ – we were challenged by the Speakers to seek the law of God and to do them. They intimated that not only does obeying the law show an acknowledgement of the creatorship and redemption of God, but also it is the only means by which we can find absolute rest, peace and liberty. At the end of the Revival three souls were baptized to the glory of GOD.
